Dr. Hamersley is a bilingual Perinatologist, board certified in both Obstetrics and Gynecology and Maternal-Fetal Medicine. She is currently licensed to practice in Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia.

Dr. Hamersley has a special interest in the treatment of thrombophilia, or blood-clotting disorders, in pregnancy, and has been recognized internationally in this field. She was an invited guest lecturer at the 2003 International Thrombosis Meeting, held in Japan, and is currently serving on both national and international committees to develop protocols for treatment and prevention of thrombosis in pregnancy.

Dr. Hamersley has made several television appearances, including The Learning Channel (“Beyond Pregnancy” – 2002), The Discovery Channel (“Miraculous Pregnancies” – 2001, “Pregnancy Primer” – 2001, “Quads and Quints” – 2000) and The Today Show (“Pregnancy After 40” – 2000), in addition to several interviews on local news networks.

Sarah is a board certified genetic counselor who provides preconception and prenatal genetic counseling services here at Maternal-Fetal Medicine Associates of Maryland. Common indications for genetic counseling are: a discussion on first or second trimester screening and testing options, advanced maternal age, teratogen exposure, recurrent pregnancy loss, positive serum screening results, ultrasound anomalies, and a personal and/or family history of a variety of genetic conditions.

Sarah earned her undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences from University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC). She holds a master’s degree in genetic counseling from the University of South Carolina, School of Medicine. She is also an active member of the National Society of Genetic Counselors.
